The Wyvern Shipping offers 2-8 berth self drive luxury narrow boats for holiday hire on the beautiful Grand Union canal halfway between London and Birmingham. Choice of exciting weekend, midweek and one or two week cruises including the river Thames.
The Wyvern Shipping was founded in 1953 as a carrying company with three pairs of narrow boats. These boats mainly carried coal from the Coventry coal fields to London and returned with timber to Birmingham.
Times were changing and by 1956 canal holidays were the future trade with former cargo boats being converted to luxury holiday boats.
The company has been run by the Griffin family since 1961 and is now operated by James & John Griffin, with their dedicated and skilled labour force.
Over the past 60 years many thousands of customers have found the fastest way of slowing down is to have a relaxing holiday on a Wyvern boat. Indeed last year in excess of 70% of our trade came from previous clients and their recommendations.
Our Narrowboats provide the key to unlock the treasures of the beauty and tranquillity of the British Canals.
The boats are built on the traditional lines of the working narrow boat. Designed and fitted out to enable you to travel in comfort and style while you leisurely cruise through the English countryside.
All boats have been specifically designed to cater for the needs of an increasingly sophisticated holiday market. The tiller steering is much more precise, and has more feel than a wheel. It is also a great advantage to have the whole boat in front of you.
