Welcome to the Cambridge Climbing and Caving Club.

The "4Cs" is a friendly and active climbing and caving club that welcomes members with all levels of experience. The club encourages a wide range of activities, including rock climbing, mountaineering, walking and caving.

The club holds regular monthly meets at a wide range of venues across the country and further afield, as well as additional trips organised by members between official meets. Monthly social meetings are also arranged.

New members are always welcome irrespective of experience.

Climbing
The Scene

Climbers in the club usually meet up during the week to climb indoors in Cambridge or the surrounding area. Many weekends, unoffical small 1-day trips to the peak district are organized amongst members. There are offical weekend trips roughly once a month to various places in the UK, and sometimes abroad.

Climbing Experience
The club welcomes new members of all abilities and experience. If you're already a climber, it's a great place to meet people and gather a carload to get out of Cambridge to more vertical terrain. If you're new, it's a great way to get an introduction to the sport.

New to Climbing?
If you are new to climbing, or would like to give it a go, joining a club is an excellent way to start. There is a strong tradition of mentoring new climbers. Most people learn by climbing with others and gradually building up their skills and experience.

If you would like to try climbing, drop by the wall or the pub on the first Wednesday of the month. You don't have to be a member to climb, and club members at the wall or the pub will be happy to talk about the club, and climbing indoors and out. Ask people at the wall (or at the bar at the Free Press) for the city climbing club, and you shouldn't have any trouble finding us.

Caving
We are a small, friendly club catering for all abilities of caver from complete beginners who want to give caving a go, through people who have tried it and want to do more, to experienced cavers.

The cavers have a club trip once a month (usually the second weekend of the month) to one of the caving areas around the UK: Derbyshire, Yorkshire, South Wales, the Wye Valley, the Mendips, and Devon.

We also have an annual club expedition to caves outside the UK, such as County Clare in Ireland, and Vercors and the Jura in France.

The caves we visit vary from vertical potholes in Yorkshire to mainly horizontal caves in the other areas. Most people start with the horizontal caves and then move on to the vertical potholes, which require familiarity with single rope technique (SRT). The club's experienced cavers, four of whom have attended the Local Cave/Mine Leader Course, Levels 1 and 2, are always happy to introduce beginners to the underground world.
