Description of Wessex Mountaineering Club

The Wessex Mountaineering Club welcomes all climbers, mountaineers and hill-walkers. We have about 250 members, mostly from the Dorset, Hampshire, and Wiltshire area. The club caters for all levels of ability, from beginners to experienced Alpinists.

It is a very active club with an extensive programme of meets, including:

  • Over 20 weekend meets a year, in areas such as North Wales, the Lake District, Cornwall, the Peak District, and Pembroke;
  • Local rock climbing and walking meets;
  • Weekly climbing wall meets;
  • Annual meets in Scotland and the Alps.
The club has its own hut in North Wales, which is always available for use by club members. A newsletter is published every two months with full details of all club activities.

The club is affiliated to the British Mountaineering Council. BMC benefits include third-party insurance, a free magazine, and access to the huts of other affiliated clubs.

Membership

The benefits of membership include a full and varied programme of meets, members’ rate at the club hut, shop discounts, BMC third party liability insurance, and a complimentary issue of Summit, the official magazine of the BMC. You will be kept in touch with club activities through the club newsletter, which is published every two months.

Membership of the Wessex Mountaineering Club is open to all persons aged eighteen or over.
