Description of Peterborough and Spalding Gliding Club

Licence Nº not provided

Our club is situated just north of Crowland (Lincolnshire, U.K.), on the A1073, at St Guthlacs Lodge, we have been here on our current site for over 25 years. We believe our Gliding Club is a pleasant place for our members and visitors to relax, meet new people and of course, glide.

We consider our club's fleet to be one of the best in the country for a club our size, and our number of privately owned gliders are continually growing.

We have all the facilities a modern gliding club needs including; a clubhouse with a kitchen, fully licensed bar, 2 club hangars.  We also have allocated spaces for the members' gliders, including a number of small hangars, a trailer park, rigging area and a children's play area . We also have space to acomodate visitors in touring caravans.

If you require further information about our club, or have some questions to ask then don't hesitate to contact us, or even better come down and visit us.

Our club fleet consists of 3 modern two-seater gliders which are mainly used for training (all provided by fully qualified BGA instructors). For the post solo glider pilot we also have 2 single-seater gliders which are available to hire at very reasonable rates. We also have 2 tugs to aerotow the gliders, our method of launching.

Gliding is a strange sport, at times it can be very cold and frustrating, other times unbelievably enjoyable and very rewarding. Peterborough & Spalding Gliding Club is now able to offer you the chance to experience the amazing thrills, and breathtaking scenery of powerless flight. On your first flight you will be taken up in one of the club's two seater gliders with an experienced instructor. A Tug Plane will take the glider up to the height of 2000ft. You will then release from the tug and set out to learn the basics of gliding. Your instructor will show you how to find 'thermals', which are rising currents of air the glider uses to stay airborne.
