Training Facilities
Our airfield, right by the sea at Lee on Solent provides a safe, flat field site with all the facilities needed to help you become a proficient glider pilot. A dedicated team of BGA certified instructors provide some of the best teaching in the UK, suitable for absolute beginners right up to instructors.

Trial Lessons
A Trial lesson gives you a chance to experience the delights of gliding. We have a well organised team of instructors who will make your first flight both enjoyable and safe. Lee on Solent is a unique place to fly with the most interesting views of any UK gliding site. It's probably cheaper than you think!

The Portsmouth Naval Gliding Centre has been operating from the South Coast for over 50 Years. Originally membership was only open to serving Naval personnel but over the years the membership criteria have been relaxed to include other branches of the M.O.D. and latterly to members of the general public who have skills that they can use to keep the centre running.

PNGC Launch point

The centre has been based at the Naval Airfield HMS Daedalus for many years. The airfield is no longer an active Naval Base and it's now known as Lee on Solent Airfield The main part (centre) of the airfield has been purchase by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency but day to day running remains with the Hampshire Police Air Support Unit. PNGC now has a negotiated agreement with the MCA and for the forseeable future will be based on the airfield. We also share the airfield with Solent Flyers and numerous other groups that fly a multitude of powered aircraft from the field.

The centre operates every weekend, at Bank Holidays and also on Wednesday afternoons.

We hold three gliding courses throughout the year. These are of one week duration and though primarily aimed at RN Officer cadets, if spaces are available then club members can sometimes be squeezed in.

The centre owns numerous two seater training gliders plus a range of single seaters to suit pilots from early solo to Silver and beyond. There is also a growing fleet of private gliders.
