Description of Bitless Bridle Equestrian Centre

Licence Nº not provided

Bitless Bridle Equestrian Centre, just outside Talsarn on the B4337 between Lampeter & Aberystwyth (map), is dedicated to Natural Horsemanship and offers tuition (groundwork & ridden); ironfree hacking and pub rides; demos, clinics and other events.

Situated on the south-facing slope of Trichrug at over 1,000 feet above sea level there are fantastic views over the surrounding countryside right out to the Brecon Beacons. The Equestrian Centre is next door to a regular feeding place for Red Kites where 200 or more can be seen circling overhead at feeding times.

In keeping with our principles of communicating with horses in a language they understand (known as 'Horse Whispering' or 'Natural Horsemanship') we also believe in keeping our horses as naturally as possible: they are all ironfree - no bits (we use Dr Cook crossunder Bitless Bridles); no shoes (and this doesn't mean they can't be ridden on roads!) and no metal trees (in the saddles). They all live out 24/7 in a natural herd system known as “Paddock Paradise” (after Jaime Jackson's book) and are unrugged (with access to natural and man-made shelter of course).

We offer a number of different experiences to be sure there is something for everyone and we have indoor as well as outdoor facilities, so you will never need to cancel due to bad weather! You can choose to use our horses / ponies or bring your own (minimum 1.5 hour session if bringing own pony).
All our lessons include varying amounts of groundwork. We believe it is vital to the relationship between rider and horse to experience groundwork before any ridden work is undertaken.

Of course you don't have to ride if you prefer to just work on the ground.

Never ridden before? Want to return to riding after a break?

For the rider who would like to experience riding for the first time or indeed get back into the saddle after time off we can offer a private or shared lesson of one hour. For those eager for that little extra time why not opt for our most popular one and a half hour sessions? These again are offered as private or shared and offer more value for your money than one hour.

Beginner horse riding

My niece will not give up the idea of horse riding and we´ve buckled (although we are still not buying her the pony). What do we need to get her started? Any suggestions when looking for a farm or rid ...
