CHESTER ZOO is the UK’s number one zoo, with over 7000 animals and 400 different species, including some of the most endangered species on the planet. With more than one million visitors every year, the Zoo is an all-year round favourite attraction for kids of all ages!

We care for over 7,000 animals, representing over 400 different species. Conservation is at the heart of the Zoo and so around half of these are threatened. The Zoo is continually developing the highest standards of conservation and care of its animals and plants, making a real contribution to saving them from extinction.

Come and see our new exhibit the Butterfly Journey, which is the largest zoo-based butterfly house in the UK. The 400sq meters tropical house which is heated to 28 degrees celsius, will be home to more than 30 species of butterfly from South America, Africa and south east Asia. The exotic species on show will include Blue Morphos, Giant Owls, Glasswings, Swallowtails and the Atlas Moth.

One of the most critically threatened species around, the Philippine Crocodile is also new to Chester Zoo. We are breeding this species to ensure its long-term survival. You can see them in their new enclosure within the Tropical Realm.

i would like to take my niece to see some penguins. Does anyone know of a zoo with penguins? Does there have to be a special cold arena for them? ...
