Description of CanalAbility

Welcome to Canal Boat Project

We provide a fleet of disability access boats for use by disabled people and community groups. Our boats are available to hire for day trips, short breaks and canal boat holidays, with two of our boats providing sleeping accommodation for up to 12 passengers. You can choose from "self steer", or if you prefer we can provide a fully qualified and experienced skipper and crew.

We were founded in 1989, and are based on the river Stort. Stort Challenger, our first holiday hire boat, was launched in 1999. Stort Daybreak was launched in 2007. She is a fully accessible day boat with room for up to 6 or 7 wheelchairs. She also has a more generous toilet and shower room, with changing bench, hoist and adjustable height washbasin, as well as an accessible galley and a day bed with hoist. Our boats also have fully equipped kitchens, central heating.

Depending on how long you hire one of our boats for, from our location you can sail to Roydon and back, Parndon Mill, Hunsdon Mead nature reserve, Harlow Mill, Sawbridgeworth and Bishops Stortford.
