Description of Craven Pothole Club

Welcome to Craven Pothole Club

We are a caving and sports club based in Horton in Ribblesdale in North Yorkshire, although we also have other locations in the region. Since our founding in 1929 we have gained immense caving experience and have grown to around 240 members. The objective of the group is to promote activities such as:

  • Exploration of caves and potholes
  • Mountaineering
  • Cycling
  • Fell walking
  • Skiing
  • Rock climbing

Our club typically meets fortnightly in the summer and somewhat less often in the winter. Our members are also informally active almost every weekend, so you will be able to find a group going caving almost any weekend that suits you.

We also publish a quarterly magazine called The Record. It serves to inform club members of both local and international caving news. It also provides resources for the club's more academically motivated members.

We are committed to environmental conservation and actively participate in efforts to restore and preserve caves for future generations.

Finally we have a friendly atmosphere, and we always welcome new members with open arms.
