From our moorings on Brandy Island, near the town of Lechlade-on-Thames, you can take a peaceful trip down river in an easy-to-use, eco-friendly boat. It’s a beautiful part of the river, where plants and animals thrive in and around the water.
This 2-hour hire session is ideal for anyone looking to take their minds off the modern world. You can explore the river’s islands and meanders downstream or go against the flow to reach the historic Trout Inn in Lechlade.
The boats are the size and shape of a typical rowing boat, but powered by an electric outboard motor. They’re big enough for four average-sized adults, three adults and two small children, or similar groups. There’s no minimum age to get onboard but one person in the group must be over 21. Well-behaved dogs are welcome!
We have plenty of lifejackets to fit people of all shapes and sizes and we particularly recommend that children and vulnerable adults use them.

We know from the Wind in the Willows that there’s nothing like messing about on the river.The wind and water move the willow trees that grow at Buscot Lock and Brandy Island, the location of our boat hire venue on the upper reaches of the River Thames.
We have some fantastic boats for hire, including 6-person motor boats with licks of red or grey paint and environmentally friendly electric motors. Why not hire one for 4 hours and do some messing about of your own?
From Buscot Lock, you can go upstream to nearby Lechlade-on-Thames, site of the famous Trout Inn, or to the Plough Inn, downstream in the village of Kelmscott. Both are within reach (including return time) in 4 hours.
Of course, there’s much more than pubs to discover - especially if you’re with the family. These boats can take up to six medium-sized adults. Groups of seven can be accommodated if they include children or infants, always with at least one adult over 21, and small dogs are allowed on board too. There are life jackets available to anyone who wants one.

Tree-lined banks, open countryside, the sound of the water - a perfect day out.That’s what we’re offering at our boat hire venue on the River Thames. We’re based on Brandy Island, where the river flows through Buscot Lock and into the Vale of the White Horse in Oxfordshire.
One of our most popular boats is called Megan. It’s an elegant river cruiser with a cabin, a spacious deck and a removable canopy to keep the showers off. It also has a chemical loo - making it the ideal choice for a full-day trip.
Navigating downstream, you’ll enjoy beautiful views on both sides and pass a couple of picturesque villages. We recommend packing a picnic and having it on the bank or experiencing an authentic pub lunch at the Trout, the Plough or the Swan. You can travel as far as Tadpole bridge in a day, leaving three hours to return upstream.
Five adults can fit on the Megan but groups of six are welcome if they contain children under 12 years old. We need at least one over-21 on board at all times. There are life jackets of all sizes for anyone who wants one.
