Rowling finished the first draft of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone when living in Edinburgh and left a trail of breadcrumbs of inspiration around the city that we’re going to follow. From the Waverley train station to a spooky graveyard, and through the Old Town with views up to Edinburgh Castle to Victoria Street which inspired Diagon Alley.
You’ll meet your guide at Tron Kirk on the Royal Mile, wand in hand. All of our guides are local and passionate about their material, you’re free to ask questions and take photos throughout the tour.
The itinerary takes around two hours to complete. There are four time slots available per day, from 10 am to 5:30 pm, up to 15 people can join us on each of them.

Are you after a fantasy journey that’s just for grown-ups?Then grab your magic wand and tumbler with ice and join us for a Harry Potter walking tour plus whisky tasting in Edinburgh. You’ll become an expert on both subjects over the course of 4 hours.
This is a truly Scottish experience. Whisky is one of the most well known Scottish (or Scotch) exports and is produced in distilleries around the country. Harry Potter, on the other hand, was partially written in and inspired by Edinburgh, while other parts of the country became film locations when it was adapted for the big screen.
We’ll meet at Tron Kirk on the Old Town’s bustling Royal Mile and go for a two-hour stroll around the pivotal points in the development of the wizarding world, including the grave of Tom Riddell and real-life Diagon Alley, and other classic Edinburgh landmarks like the castle.
Then we’ll retire to a cosy bar near St Giles Cathedral to be introduced to the world of Scotch whisky by an expert in the field. It’s a hands on session including three glasses of whisky, so this tour is strictly for over 18s. Bring your friends! We can have up to 15 people on the tour.

The first is history, embodied in Edinburgh Castle which stands atop a hill in the centre of the city. The second is culture, demonstrated by the huge Fringe festival that takes place every August and the connection with the global phenomenon of Harry Potter.
We’ll take you on a two-hour walking tour of the Old Town, starting at Tron Kirk, which features places that inspired J. K. Rowling in the creation of her fantasy world like the university, the train station and the cafe where she wrote much of the first book.
Then we’ll ascend the hill to Edinburgh Castle and get to grips with the real life story of the city. Castle entrance for adults (16 years old and above) is included in this price. Ask us about children’s rates.
The castle takes around two hours to see so the whole experience lasts roughly four hours. We run two tours a day, with a capacity for 15 people in each group.
