"Abyss fuerteventura - a dive centre with hidden depth."
Vincent and Fatima (the owner/operators) were fantastic with my girlfriend, Aurora, and I. Even before we arrived they were helpful. Answering our emails quickly and amazingly, arranged an apartment in a beautiful complex with its own pool 2 mins... View more walk from the beach and 5 mins from their dive centre, for only 22 Euros per night! As soon as we arrived they made us comfortable in the shop just off the main street in Corrralejo, 100m from the beach. We are both professional divers and signed up for several fun dives. Signing up was quick and easy with both Vince and Fati able to explain the documents. Then they sized us for the dive gear we needed, wetsuits and BCDs. We both have our own regs, fins and masks but Abyss had plenty and said they would take a spare bag just in case. We arranged a single dive with them the next morning, a shore dive called El Jablito about 15 mins away by car (or the Abyss truck) from the dive centre. The next day we walked to the dive centre for 8.30 and preped our gear. As Vince and Fati had every thing ready we were in the truck and on our way by 9.00. Arriving at El Jablito Vince gave us a great briefing explaining the site, what we might see, safety details and timings then we put our gear on and walk the 10m form the truck to the waters edge. The water in Fuerte is between 18 and 24 degrees, when we dived it was 21 degrees. I wore an 3mm wet suit and Aurora 5mm with rash vest and we both felt quite warm for the entire dive. The water was a little cloudy but visibility was still a good 10-15m and we reached a max depth of 13m. This meant we had plenty of air to last the 40 min dive. Within 2 mins of descending we saw 2 flounders dancing around each other and more spider crabs than I can count. Through the dive there was many different types of fish most of which seemed undisturbed by us and came in very close. Fati had the camera and took loads of great photos for us (at the end of the trip she put together a CD with all the photos for just 25 Euros). Vince led us around the site and timed it perfectly so we were back at the entry/exit point bang on time. As we took our gear off and dried a little for the ride home I saw that the other dive centre (who had arrive before us) still had not gone for their dive and were shouting at one of their customers who had a faulty reg. I was even more happy that we had decided to dive with Abyss. Back at the dive centre Vince and Fati cleaned all the gear and hung it in the shop to dry. They were more then happy to let us leave our gear there too so we didn?t have to carry it there and back each time. The next day we were due to go for 2 boat dives from the pier however, as the winds were up it meant that the wave were high and it would be very uncomfortable to dive. Vince explained this to us the night before, for which I was grateful as I like it when people put safety and comfort over making money, also I got a lay in! Instead that day we went for a walk around Corralejo and tried an excellent restaurant that Fati recommended. Next morning was the boat dives. 2 dives at 2 different sites. We met at the shop and took the truck with all the gear to the pier where we loaded it on to the boat, a sporty yellow rib set for diving. The ride out (about 10 mins) was quite comfortable and the captain, Peter, a nice guy. At the site again Vince briefed us and explained about the back roll off the boat. The dive sites has plenty of life on them including octopus, crabs, barracuda and some beautiful rays. Each dive was 40-45mins and a surface interval. They had brought water and coffee to warm us between dives and were happy to explain about some of the things we had seen. We were back at the pier by 1130 and finished in the dive centre by 1230 giving us the whole afternoon for what ever we wanted (siesta!). |Our final day diving was a couple of days later. 2 boat dives, 2 different sites. This time we had another couple with us. One of the thing I really appreciated was that Vince and Fati wanted every one to be safe and comfortable so while we would all go down and dive together should one buddy pair be low on air first they would go with Vince back to the boat allowing the other team to finish the dive with Fati. Other companies I?ve dived with would simply pull everyone back to the boat when the first person was low on air. Very frustrating if you dive with an air hog who empties their tank in 20 mins. The dive sites were, once again, full of life. A little more current this time making the dive slightly more challenging but if you stay close to the rocks it was not too bad. The eagle rays that flew past were an incredible sight and a truly amazing end for our dive trip. Altogether we could not have been happier with Vince and Fati and Abyss. They always put our needs first and could not have been more helpful. The equipment was in excellent condition, every thing was prepared and ready for us. Their professionalism and commitment to safety and comfort made this, to me a first rate dive centre and I would highly recommend them to every level of diver.

"New horizons dive centre"
I learnt to dive with another dive centre, and when you learn you do as you are told and you don't know any better. It was only when the dive centre I learned with went bust and I found New Horizons that I realised I had learnt to dive with a... View more bunch of cowboys who had put my personal safety at risk. New Horizons attention to standards and safety procedures were a real eye opener and I'm glad I survived to find them.

" We really enjoyed the diving "
We really enjoyed the diving taster session. The instructors were all very friendly and helpful, and we covered a lot more than we hoped or expected to. We would recommend this to any beginner divers and it was excellent value for money.
