Description of Vale of the White Horse Gliding Centre

Try Gliding at the Vale of the White Horse Gliding Centre!

A gliding lesson voucher is the perfect gift, or treat yourself!

The Vale of White Horse Gliding Centre (VoWHGC) is based at Sandhill Farm near Shrivenham in the beautiful Vale of White Horse in Oxfordshire.
VoWHGC offers novices, experienced glider pilots, and those who just want to experience gliding the chance to fly in a beautiful part of the country where there are excellent thermal activity and the potential for extensive cross-country flights.

Club Profile:
VoWHGC is a member of the British Gliding Association and we observe their strict operational regulations. This means our gliders are subject to annual Certificate of Airworthiness tests and daily inspections; and that our instructors are properly trained and qualified.

The airfield is about 2.5 miles northeast of Swindon on the B4000 Shrivenham to Highworth road. The club has around 60 members and operates a fleet of two 2-seater along with a single-seater. We operate an aerotow launch system, that is the launching of gliders via a tow by a powered aircraft.

In addition to our normal flying activities, various special events are arranged such as additional weekday flying, soaring courses, and social events.  Visitors are always welcome, so please feel free to turn up at any time when the club is operating (normally every weekend and bank holiday).
