Description of Marie Curie Cancer Care

Marie Curie Cancer Care is a UK charity dedicated to caring for people with terminal cancer and other illnesses.

During the financial year of 2010/2011, we were able to reach out to a total of 31799 patients, with our network of Marie Curie Nurses, 2000 nurses who cared for 23,406 patients with 1.2 million hours of care and support for the patients and their families.

The Marie Curie Hospices, located in Solihull, Penarth, Newcastle, Liverpool, Hampstead in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bradford and Belfast work together to provide the greatest number of hospice beds outside of the NHS, providing a better care and a better quality of life to 8,393 in 2010/2011.

Research Marie Curie Cancer Care is at the forefront of research into improving care for patients with terminal illness with our own research teams as well as the support we provide to external programmes.

As well as all of these vital services we also campaign to keep patients out of hospitals allowing them to be treated and to pass away in their own homes surrounded by family rather than a hospital bed.

All this is made possible through a 50/50 partnership with the NHS and the support we receive from the public. And one of the many ways we achieve this is to provide fun adventures and challenges in the great outdoors around the United Kingdom.
