We’re based in Northumberland in northeast England and we put on awesome activities in the great outdoors. Canoeing, climbing, abseiling, coasteering, zip lining and bushcraft are our bread and butter, keeping us going on our venue near Belford. We also run trips to the Northumberland coast, other locations in the north of England and across the border in Scotland.

If you’re a city dweller, you might be surprised by our setting. Northumberland is blessed with wide, open landscapes with few traces of modern civilisation. You’ll find us just off the A1 on the Twizell Estate, a large area of woodland and parkland which is perfect for reconnecting with nature.

Organising your outdoor experiences is a close-knit team of passionate adventure instructors. The company was founded by ex-servicemen with the mission of helping people grow and recover from trauma by spending time in natural surroundings.

But they do far more than just work with veterans. They are heavily invested in the outdoor activity industry, putting on and participating in outdoor leadership courses, surf lifeguarding programmes and more. They’re also doing all they can to promote the sector to the public at large - you might have seen manager Dan showing Robson Green how to boil a kettle in the wilderness on the BBC recently!

At Northern Outdoor Canoes, we know how important it is to escape from it all every once in a while. We also know that canoeing is one of the best activities for clearing your head. The rhythm of paddling, the sounds of water and the beautiful surroundings are truly therapeutic.

That’s especially true at our hand-picked destinations. We are based in Northumberland where there are a number of rivers that meet our criteria, including the Tyne, the Till and the Tweed which marks the border between England and Scotland. We don’t let that frontier stop us, running an annual four-day expedition to the Highlands, where we canoe down the River Spey.

Our instructors are all experienced, qualified and knowledgeable and will provide you with a professional and friendly service, taking you through everything you need to know to get the most out of the activity. We are passionate about the outdoors and want to make sure you have a fun and unforgettable experience.

Our two-person Canadian canoes are safe and user-friendly, and their large size decreases your chance of falling into the water and getting wet! They also have enough storage space to let us make overnight expeditions and explore even further - the perfect adventure to enjoy with friends or family.

When we founded Northern Outdoor, we knew that it was only a matter of time before we started taking people Coasteering. Crashing waves, hidden caves, cliff jumps and open water swimming combine to turn this into the adventure of a lifetime.

We’re based on the Twizell Estate, not far from Northumberland's spectacular coast. The North Sea has spent milenia carving beautiful shapes into the shoreline of this county, allowing us to enjoy amphibious action to our hearts’ content. Our go-to site for this sport is Howick, where cliffs descend to the sea in shelves of rock.

Coasteering is one of our most adrenaline-fuelled activities! With the help of our team of expert instructors, you’ll learn how to safely visit the seldom visited intertidal zone.

Coasteering is a really fun activity for groups, such as stag and hen parties, birthday parties, corporate days out, and groups of friends and family who just want to get outdoors and try something different!

Challenge yourself to reach the top and be the best version of yourself!

At Northern Outdoor Climbing, we’re fanatical about rock climbing. The feel of the rock, the sense of achievement at reaching the top and the natural cliffs and crags make it electrifying. But the thing we love most is helping other people get to the top!

If you join us for a climbing activity, we guarantee to have you exceeding your own expectations. Fear of heights can vanish into thin air when you feel confident and comfortable. We have a number of great climbing spots within easy reach of our base at Twizell Estate, Northumberland. A short drive away is Kyloe Crag, a rock formation deep in a dense forest. Corby’s Crag is another inspiring option.

We have an experienced team of instructors who hold all the necessary qualifications to put on safe and successful climbing experiences. Rock climbing is a fun and exhilarating experience and will really challenge you both mentally and physically in an endorphin-releasing experience. We can easily incorporate this activity with others to create an outdoor adventure package.

Climbing high is no good if you can’t make your way back down.

Here are Northern Outdoor, we combine all of our climbing activities with Abseiling. There are particular skills, and specific thrills, associated with abseiling. If you master them, you can glide effortlessly down a rock face, cliff, artificial tower, or any other high structure you can think of!

Up in rural Northumberland, our best abseiling venues are natural rock faces. There are a couple of crags in the local area - that is, near our base at Twizell Estate - which are terrific for tearing down. Corby’s Crag is a good bet, but we keep going back to the Kyloe Woods to enjoy the peace, quiet and crags.

Both climbing and abseiling are activities that you have to get right and we make sure that we do by employing a team of qualified instructors. They have a great deal of experience in the rock climbing and abseiling world so they’re ready to face any challenge and get all kinds of people, regardless of age, ability or expertise, moving up and down the rocks like pros.

Our activities are perfect for special occasions like birthdays or stag and hen parties. Team building is something else we do well, so why not organise a corporate event, school outing or youth organisation activity day with us? Abseiling is just one of the experiences that we offer!

What do you do when the modern world gets a bit too much?

At Norther Outdoor Archery, we take a deep breath and focus on our targets, one arrow at a time. That’s right, practising the ancient sport of archery is an unrivalled way of slowing down, centering yourself and changing your headspace. On the other hand, we have axe throwing for anyone who wants to let out their wild side.

Both of them are great fun! We welcome groups of all kinds such as stag and hen parties, birthday parties, corporate days out, and groups of friends and family to our site in Northumberland. We’re based on the Twizell Estate, where woodland and parkland create the ideal landscape for letting loose some arrows and axes.

Our instructors will take you through archery and axe throwing techniques and help you develop and improve your aim. They’ll organise fun and challenging games so you can put your new skills into practice and enjoy a bit of healthy competition!

Take to the trees for a high-altitude adventure!

Northern Outdoor High Ropes is your venue of choice if you loved climbing trees as a kid and never grew out of it! There's something special about using the branches to scale the trunk. We have a reputation as one of the premier outdoor activity providers in Northumberland, and that’s thanks in part to our aerial adventures.

On our base on the Twizell Estate, we’ve constructed a woodland playground to thrill your senses. There are zip lines for fast flying, some of which take you across water as well as the woodland floor. Then there are trees which we’ve kitted out with climbing holds and rope systems so that you can indulge those innocent childhood desires of reaching the canopy!

Our events are led and supervised by trained and experienced members of our team. They have all the skills and knowledge to help you overcome your fears and have a treetop adventure. They’re fun to be around too, keeping groups such as stag and hen dos, corporate teams, birthday parties and youth organisations entertained from start to finish.
