Based in Richmond, North Yorkshire, Swaledale Outdoor Club offers many different activities to its members. Promoting outdoor activities in the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, as well as in other places, with different trips organised throughout the year.

Swaledale Outdoor Club has a group of very passionate people who love their canoes, and love going on trips with them. Historically, canoeing with Swaledale Outdoor Club has been a ‘learn as you go’ activity for beginners, but there are plans in 2013 for some pool sessions and a beginners course in Spring 2013.

Canoeing trips are planned almost every week at Swaledale Outdoor Club, but there are also ‘spur of the moment’ type trips as well. As well as local trips, canoeing expeditions are arranged for other parts of the UK, as well as all over the world! The local rivers for Swaledale Outdoor Club are Swale, Tees, Wear and Ure.

Swaledale Outdoor Club has a group of very passionate mountain bikers of all ages and abilities who take place in rides all year round. Mostly riding cross country on the Yorkshire Dales, the Swaledale Outdoor Club also ventures further out with trips to the Lake District, Scotland, Wales.

In summer, trips to the Alps are arranged, and in colder months, the group organises trips to Spain or Morocco. Rides are graded so you know how hard or easy it will be! From trips where you can bring the whole family along, to hard, long rides for experienced Mountain Bikers.

Swaledale Outdoor Club is ideally located in one of the best areas in the country for going caving – the Yorkshire Dales. The cavers at Swaledale Outdoor Club regularly explore what is underneath the earth, and there are many visits to the caves and abandoned mines of Swaledale.

All skills are accounted for, with beginner trips for people who are just starting out caving, to some caves that are a challenge to the experienced members. Swaledale Outdoor Club also organises weekend trips to other parts of the UK to experience different types of caves, and also sometimes organising trips overseas as well.

Swaledale Outdoor Club is part of an initiative to promote Orienteering in the Richmond area. There is a permanent course in the Round Howe Picnic area in Richmond for people to do some orienteering in, and the Swaledale Outdoor Club has copies of maps for people who want to give orienteering a go. There are both short and long courses, so all levels of skill and fitness are accounted for.

Orienteering with Swaledale Outdoor Club is currently a self led activity, but the club offers support to those who want to take up the sport, as well as those who would like to continue with it.

Swaledale Outdoor Club has a group of very passionate people who love all types of kayaking. Swaledale Outdoor Club do many different activities with their kayaks. As well as going on day and multi day trips both in the UK and abroad, Swaledale Outdoor Centre take their kayaks white water kayaking, as well as kayak surfing.

Each session is available to newcomers, with easier trips at the start of the season to get everyone acclimatised, and then harder trips towards the end! Swaledale Outdoor Centre has many experienced kayakers who are keen to share their knowledge with you, and help you improve in the sport of kayaking.
