Alton Water Sailing Academy

Alton Water is one of the premier water sports centres in Suffolk County. Seated on the largest stretch of inland water in Suffolk, Alton Water Sailing Academy offers the perfect conditions for sailing, windsurfing, and canoeing.

Bring your craft of choice out to enjoy a day on the water, or members of all ages can take advantage of our RYA-approved sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking lessons. Many members also compete in the full schedule of races we host throughout the year, including our two open regattas.

Visitors are welcome to come for the day and bring their own boat, or can rent one of our craft on site. Our rowboats are especially popular, and big enough for the whole family. Afterwards, enjoy a snack at our café, or relax and take advantage of the Alton Water Wifi.

Alton Water Sailing Academy is one of the premier kayaking destinations Suffolk County. Come explore the beautiful Alton Water reservoir by canoe or kayak. Our reservoir and beach are clean, beautiful, and the perfect place to learn to paddle.

Come spend the day practicing on your own, or enroll in one of our training courses to perfect your technique. We allow both sit on and sit in canoes on the water.If you don´t have your own craft, we have a number of sit on kayaks available for hire, as well as single and double oar row boats that are big enough for the whole family.

Alton Water offers training courses for all ages and skill levels. Our group classes are designed to cover both theory and practice at the most appropriate level for maximum benefit. One-on-one tuition with our expert staff is also available. Canoeing and kayaking clubs and societies are also welcome to take advantage of our facilities and join us on the water.

Alton Water is one of the premier sailing clubs in Suffolk County. Seated on the largest stretch of inland water in Suffolk, Alton Water Sailing Academy offers the perfect conditions for learning or perfecting the best possible sailing technique.

Sailing is our members favorite past time, and we offer a very full year-round calendar of events and races. We host two open regattas in the spring and autumn, usually with over 50 boats participating. Racing is competitive, but always in good spirit and fun.

For those who aren´t quite ready to race, or just want to improve their ability, we offer training courses for all ages. Members build skills, improve their technique, and gain confidence with coaching from our expert staff. All training courses are aimed at moving sailors up to the next level of RYA.

The Alton Water Sailing Academy program is perfect for members interested in racing competitively or who are just passionate about sailing. We also now offer RYA OnBoard summer courses for members under 18 who want to get out on the water and learn.

Alton Water is one of the top windsurfing spots in Suffolk County. Seated on the largest stretch of inland water in Suffolk, Alton Water Sailing Academy offers the perfect conditions for learning or perfecting your windsurfing ability.

Our windsurfing facilities are ideal, featuring a large grassed rigging area, a sandy launch beach, and clean reservoir water. The wind conditions are ideal for learners, and even expert surfers will enjoy the reservoir. Non-members are welcome to come out on the water for the day!

We offer training courses for members ages 8 and above, at all skill levels. Our expert staff will help you develop and improve your technique, and one-on-one tuition is also available. For children, our T15 racing lessons are held every Saturday morning. Those who love to race can join our very successful T15 “Wipeout”  team, which has been very successful in regional competitions.

From those who have never surfed before to experts, our windsurfing facilities and trainings will have you riding the wind and improving your skill in no time!
