Description of Killin Outdoor Centre

Outdoor centre and shop based in the picturesque highland village of Killin near Loch Tay.

Canoe and sit-on top kayak hire is available just minutes from the Killin Outdoor Centre and Mountain Shop following a safe and quiet section of river into Loch Tay. There are islands to land on and have picnics with stunning views of Ben Lawers. Return is the same way.

Mountain Bike hire is also available with a variety of bike sizes available for all the family. Safe, on-road cycling routes are available as well as the popular off-road national cycle route 7, going over the Glenogle railway viaduct to lochearnhead.

All of our activities are done from the outdoor shop so if your needing any supplies or equipment we'll certainly be able to help! A changing room and toilet are available with parking just next door to the outdoor shop in the McLaren Community Hall Car Park (free of charge).

How to get there?

If coming from the A85 at Lix Toll, we are at the opposite end of the village from the Falls of Dochart, just past the Post Office and Co-operative. If coming from Aberfeldy along the A827 we are just after the Killin Hotel. Parking is available, free-of-charge in the McLaren Hall. During the summer months, keep an eye out for our canoes and mountain bikes outside the shop.

Description of Killin Outdoor Centre Canoeing

Our canoe hire starts next to the Killin Hotel on the gentle River Lochay which flows into the head of Loch Tay.

The route is safe and peaceful with plenty of opportunites to stop and have a break. At the head of the Loch there are a couple of islands which you can land on and if you have the time even have a picnic!

From the Loch there are stunning views of the mountains of Ben Lawers and Ben More. The route returns the same way back to the launch.

Our canoe hire is great because its completely unsupervised so you can go at your own pace and learn as you go! All equipment is provided in the cost, and we take the boats down for you. To make a booking just come into the shop or give us a call.

Description of Killin Outdoor Centre Mountain Biking

There are numerous mountain biking routes in the area with one of the most popular being the National Cycle Network, Route 7 over to Lochearnhead from Killin. This goes over the infamous Glenogle Railway viaduct which has been on television and a firm family favourite. The adventurous can carry-on to Balquhidder or further with stunning views the whole way.

At Killin Outdoor Centre and Mountain Shop you can hire bikes to experience the wonderful scenery.

Looking for easy options for the little ones? There are plenty of quiet, on-road cycle options for numerous timescales.

Our hire times are 2 hours, 4 hours or up to 24 hours. This means you can take the bike overnight if your planning a big day out!

We use Giant hardtail mountain bikes which are regularly serviced for problem free cycling. We sell off our bikes every year so the bikes are in great shape and look no further if your wanting a good buy!

Bikes are available for all the family including a child seat and a tagalong, plus childrens 20" and 24" bikes. All equipment is included in the price.
