Donegal is the coolest place in the world!
Don’t take our word for it, it’s the opinion of the voters in the National Geographic poll to name the most happening places on the planet. That was back in 2017. In 2019, Atlantic Coastal Cruises was founded, inspired by the beauty of this northwestern corner of the island of Ireland and the memory of our local gentleman of the sea, John Gallagher.
We’re based in Killybegs, whose large natural harbour has led to the town becoming the largest fishing port in the Republic of Ireland. On one side is the Atlantic Ocean, on the other is the mountainous interior of Donegal. You’ll find us on Town Pier, on the north side of Killybegs Harbour.
One of our cruises takes passengers on a tour of Killybegs Harbour, exploring both the natural aspects and the human-built installations. Another, our most popular, has the breathtaking Sliabh Liag cliffs (also spelt Slieve League)as its destination. Marine wildlife can be seen enjoying the waters, heated by the Gulf Stream, on both of these tours. Seals and seabirds are almost guaranteed sightings, while dolphins, salmon, basking sharks and more are possibilities.
Our boat is a gorgeous class 2A marine vessel with enough deck and seating space for 96 passengers to ride in style and enjoy panoramic views. It has a fully licensed bar, toilet facilities and modern navigation, communication and safety systems. We take safety incredibly seriously at Atlantic Coastal Tours and every member of the crew is trained in first aid, harbour and marine safety and safety management.
