That’s where Conans Law comes in. We are a country sports venue set over 1,500 acres of land in the heart of rural Ayrshire, where the landscape is unspoilt, the skies are unobscured and it’s easy to unwind.
Our site has it all. There’s a shooting range, a well-stocked fishing loch, two self-catering lodges by way of accommodation, the main house and a generous car park. We put on a range of country sports, from fly fishing to clay pigeon shooting and other target sports besides. Air rifle shooting, archery and axe throwing are all up for grabs.
Owner Jay Steel has an eye for organisation and a knack for hitting the nail on the head. She’s put together a programme of activities that are perfect for individuals and family groups as well as larger parties. Stag and hen dos are very welcome at Cowans Law, while corporate events are guaranteed to come off like a charm at this venue.

Everyone has that one special activity that makes them happy.
For us at Cowans Law, it’s Clay Pigeon Shooting. There’s something so exciting about training your sites and waiting for the clay to launch, then tracking it through the air and pulling the trigger! And we think that’s even better in the beautiful place we call home - rural East Ayrshire. If you don’t believe us, we cordially invite you to visit our 1,500-acre site for a shoot and find out for yourself.
As well as standard clay pigeon shooting on our purpose-built range, we’re working on simulated game experiences. This is an activity that tries to emulate the hunting of real birds and waterfowl using clay pigeon technology. It takes place off-piste, with hidden traps launching clays all over the place. If you like the sound of that, watch this space!
We run plenty of other shooting activities besides. Air rifles are some of our most popular guns. As a sport, air rifle shooting is very different to clay shooting as the targets don’t move, but it’s just as enjoyable. We also like to go old school with archery and axe throwing sessions.

Come and try your hand at the ancient discipline of archery in the historic landscape of East Ayrshire. There’s nothing like firing arrows from your bow under wide open skies in an area that’s untouched by urban encroachment - there’s hardly a telegraph pole in sight! You don’t have to be able to sink an arrow in a telegraph pole at 500 paces to take part in our sessions, beginners and youngsters are welcome.
Our site is perfect for country sports such as archery for a number of reasons. FIrstly, at 1,500 acres, it’s large enough to accommodate even the loosest arrows. Secondly, we have plenty of facilities to make your visit comfortable. Finally, we also have an air rifle range for combined target sport activities.
We don’t stop at archery and air rifle shooting. We’re specialists in clay pigeon shooting and simulated game experiences. We also have a fishing loch that’s regularly stocked with trout for fly fishing. On top of that, there’s the opportunity to try the primal sport of axe throwing.

Wait, you’re probably thinking, isn’t Cowans Law a fishing lake? We’re far more than that. Our most exciting activity is now available: Axe Throwing. This is the sport of hurling real axes and targets made of tree trunks. The idea is, and the thrill comes from, leaving your axe stuck head-first in the wood.
This is a sport that requires far more than athleticism. You need a wild side too! We can help you tap into that side at our expansive venue, covering 1,500 acres of East Ayrshire terrain. It’s ideal for inspiring confidence, camaraderie and healthy competition, all the necessary ingredients for an unforgettable axe throwing session.
Back to the fishing, our site also has its own trout-stocked loch, as well as clay shooting ranges and archery and air rifle shooting facilities. We have indoor and outdoor seating areas, refreshments and even accommodation on site. This is your one stop shop for birthday parties, stag and hen events, corporate outings or fun days with the family!

An angling paradise in East Ayrshire…
Cowans Law is a country sports venue which specialises in Fly Fishing. We have a large, weed-free loch on our 1,500-acre site which is the scene of many happy fishing trips for locals, visitors and us!
We release fish into the loch on a weekly basis. Most people know us for our Rainbow and Tiger Trout, which are healthy, strong and fully-finned - each one a catch to be proud of - but there Blues and Brooks as well. All of them come from one of the best fish farms in the country.
The lake itself is set up with 40 positions around its shores. There is a good gravel path down to the water’s edge so that wheelchair users can access it. We have rods and tackle for hire for groups and first-time fishers and even boats to allow you to choose your own spot.
As if that wasn’t enough, you can try our other activities. We host clay pigeon shooting, archery, axe throwing and air rifle shooting. Sessions and packages are available for individuals, families and groups. Hen and stag parties and team building events are particularly welcome.
