Sailing is the all-inclusive hotel package equivalent of an adventure holiday. When you have the whole ocean at your fingertips, the possibilities are endless; discover an island, relax on a beach, sail a yacht. From chartered trips to private hires, sailing holidays can cater to your every need! If you’re still not quite convinced, here are our top 5 reasons why you should go sailing in the UK.
1. The ultimate freedom
Being able to pick and choose which beach you want to explore is a feeling of freedom only a select few are usually able to experience – however we are here to make it available to everyone! Whether you want to relax on a secluded island, go and tour a nearby village, or discover hidden gems, just pull up the anchor and sail to wherever your heart desires. If you’re craving for the ultimate freedom, then sailing is definitely for you.
2. Learn a new skill
Learning a new skill is one of the greatest feelings in life; the sense of pride and boost in self-confidence you get from achieving something you never thought you could do is unparalleled. Whether your goal is to simply set sail onto the waves or to become the master of your own boat, sailing is a skill everyone can learn!
3. Time for relaxing and being active
When you go on a sailing trip, as well as having the ultimate freedom comes the perfect blend of relaxing and activity. Enjoy the journey as you sail from destination to destination, soaking up the sun and enjoying the views as you travel across the big blue. Then, whenever you choose, take a dip into the ocean for a splash with loved ones for a few hours, or stop at a port and tour a city – the choice is really up to you! But whatever your mood, there’ll always be something for you to enjoy.
4. Every time is unique
It doesn’t matter how many times you set sail, the experience will always be different from the last. With every trip comes new experiences and opportunities; to travel to places you’ve never been. Even if you fancy taking a trip to last holiday’s destination, due to society and time, islands and cities are ever-changing, meaning there’ll always be something new for you to discover.
5. Discover the most beautiful hidden places
When you’ve got the whole ocean at your fingertips, the trips you take and the stops you make provide endless possibilities. There is a plethora of uninhabited islands all around the British isles; some with a population just enough to sport a fresh, seaside restaurant and a few cafes – which means no summer crowds, unnecessary queuing, dealing with raunchy holidaymakers. It’s just you, your loved ones, and the sea. An intimate and idyllic experience guaranteed.
When should I go sailing in the UK?
Going sailing when the seas are on the calmer side and the wind at just the right speed is paramount for ensuring enjoyment and safety. Therefore, we would suggest going during late summer and autumn in order to make sure that the conditions are just right. However, if you’re wanting to be more adventurous you can book a chartered sailing tour, helmed by an experienced skipper who can take you on an adrenaline-fuelled journey into the waves throughout the harsher months. So really what we’re trying to say is there’s never really a bad time to go!
