Golden sands, and beyond, a blessed green country…
At Traigh Mhòr Pony Trekking, this is no fantasy. It’s our beautiful home on the Isle of Lewis, the northernmost island of the Outer Hebrides. This is a place of wild beauty, of myths and legends, and of strong traditions. Come and share in the island magic by joining us on a horse ride.
Our stables and riding centre is located in the village of North Tolsta which is about 12 miles up the east coast of the island from Stornoway, the capital. This puts the breathtaking beach known in Gaelic as Traigh Mhòr, right at our feet - or hooves, perhaps. It stretches for 2 miles, an uninterrupted expanse of foam-washed sand between rocky, from one heather-topped headland to another.
We lead beach rides across the sands, as well as treks and trail rides over the moorland of the interior of Lewes. With lead rein rides among our activities, we can cater to riders of all ability levels. There are big differences in the climate and the scenery from summer to winter in this farflung part of the British Isles, but we ride out all four seasons nonetheless.
We’re a family-run business, with Leigh and Gavin at the core of the community. We have a wonderful group of horses, including cute ponies, large work horses and everything in between.
