Description of UKSA

UKSA, based on the Isle of Wight, is a youth charity that works on enhancing the lives of the people that it comes in contact with through watersports and sailing. UKSA offers transformational opportunities for all and trains people to a high standard in the sports of;

  • Kayaking
  • Powerboating
  • Sailing
  • Windsurfing

And more! UKSA can also run corporate training days on their yachts, which is a fun day for everyone. UKSA works with schools and youth groups, as well as with adults wishing to gain some RYA qualifications, top up existing skills or start from scratch. They have short course and career courses. They also provide opportunities for people with disabilities to develop watersport skills. UKSA also take part in yacht racing in order to give young people a chance to develop their confidence. UKSA also runs personal development courses such as youth engagement and back to work programmes. 

The charity patron is HRH Princess Royal, and being a charity means there are often funding opportunities for the right candidates.

Accommodation can be included so why not book a residential option? The main campus in Cowes sleeps up to 270 people.

Description of UKSA Kayaking

Kayaking with UKSA is a great activity to do, whether you are a complete beginner just getting started, or experienced and looking to top up skills or even develop a career as an instructor. As one of the fastest growing watersports, kayaks allow you to discover bits of the coastline that you couldn´t see in any other way.

UKSA is based right on the waterfront in Cowes, Isle of Wight, so there is a whole island coastline, plus rivers and the Solent, just a few strokes from the pontoon!

UKSA is known for its inspirational instructors, who will be able to help you improve on your skills and techniques, so that you feel more confident when you are out and about on the water. You can choose half-day, whole day, multi-activity or longer courses. Bespoke packages can be tailored too, so just let the team know what you want to do, and how many people are in your group, and they can sort something out for you! Food and accommodation options are available too.

Our starter courses begin in the eco-friendly indoor heated swimming pool, before progressing out into the river.

Description of UKSA Powerboating

For the ultimate excitement, get out on the water in a powerboat

UKSA
in Cowes, Isle of Wight, offers two RYA powerboating courses;

  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 – over two days, learn how to secure your boat to a buoy, anchor it, what to do if you have a man overboard situation and lots more. This course will leave you feeling confident to take out a powerboat for short day trips. The course is run frequently and includes all food and accommodation.
  • RYA Safety Boat – Learn how to use rescue techniques for other water craft, as well as how to escort them and some elements of race management and more. This course takes place over a weekend, and you need to have done RYA Powerboat level 2 to do this course.
